Failure to read labels…

Since tags are attached for a reason, it is always important to read what they say. This is paramount in safeguarding the integrity of each garment during the wash and dry cycles.

Washing and drying at an overly high temperature…

Washing and drying items at temperatures that are just too high can result in melting fibers, shrinking, and extra wear and tear on your garments because of increased friction that occurs from high heat. This habit can make your clothes look shabby sooner than you might have expected.

Letting stains sit…and sit…

It can be easy to inadvertently ignore a stain on a piece of clothing by simply throwing it into the hamper and then placing it into the washing machine along with the next load. Stains that have made themselves at home by penetrating the material’s fibers for a while are much more difficult to remove than stains that are addressed immediately. Sadly, remnants of stains may still be visible after cleaning.

Rubbing stains forcefully…

When we rub stains aggressively in the hopes that we can get them to lighten, we often do more harm than good. This act increases the chance of causing permanent damage to the garment including a fade in its color.

Leaving zippers open before washing…

Zippers must always be closed before cleaning clothes. If left open, zippers can wreak havoc by creating holes, rips, and impair delicates during the agitation and tossing motions produced by your washer and dryer.

Adding too much detergent and/or pouring it directly onto garments…

Adding too much detergent can saturate the fabric and encourage the growth of bacteria and pouring a concentrated detergent directly onto the fabric can stain, fade, or bleach clothes.

Stuffing the machine…

Packing in too much bulk during each load of laundry runs the risk of inadequately cleansed garments, necessitating a do-over that is time-consuming and reduces cost-effectiveness. You may even find yourself with a repair bill to fix the damage done to your washing machine by overloading it.

Excessive washing…

Garments wear out sooner than they normally would if they are overwashed. Your clothes can shrink in size, lose their vivid colors, and have their intended shapes distorted as a result.

Not cleaning the washing machine filter…

Ignoring cleaning the filter in your washing machine can lead to a plethora of fibers and bacteria, compromising the washer’s abilities. These fibers can also stick to your clothes for an annoying and unflattering look.
